Bicycle Rider Killed in Balboa Park Crash on Southbound State Route 163
BALBOA PARK, CA (April 21, 2021) – A bicycle rider was killed after an accident along State Route 163 in Balboa Park.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the tragic accident occurred on Wednesday night. Officers reported the wreck at about 9:05 p.m.
A vehicle struck the bicycle rider in a southbound lane of State Route 163 near the exit ramp to Park Boulevard and south Interstate 5.
Bicyclist Hit by Car Near Park Boulevard and Interstate 5
The California Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason the driver hit the bicyclist who was trying to cross the highway at the time.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found the cyclist down on the ground. They then confirmed that the cyclist died as a result of the collision.
Meanwhile, CHP did not mention if the motorist involved stopped after hitting the victim. Officials described the car as possibly an Audi.
Authorities forced a portion of the roadway to shut down for a time following the crash. The cause of the Balboa Park bicycle collision is still under investigation.
