Bicyclist Killed in Balboa Park DUI Crash on Pershing Drive Near Golf Course
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 20, 2021) – A DUI crash killed a bicyclist on Pershing Drive in the Balboa Park neighborhood.
According to an article published by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the tragic accident took place on Tuesday morning. Officers reported the collision shortly after 7:30 a.m.
The incident happened when a woman was riding a bicycle north on Pershing Drive in Balboa Park. At the same time, a 2011 Prius was traveling in the same direction.
Bicycle Rider Hit by Car
The driver of the Prius then drifted into a bike lane and struck the rider. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene near the Morley Field Disc Golf Course.
Medical personnel soon found her unresponsive in the roadway as a result of the collision. They rushed the victim to a hospital, where she died.
Meanwhile, police determined that the motorist was under the influence when he hit the bicyclist. They arrested and booked him into the jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Officers forced a portion of Pershing Drive to shut down for a time following the collision. The Balboa Park DUI crash is still under investigation.
