4-Vehicle Crash Near Yuba City on Highway 70
YUBA CITY, Calif. (Oct. 24, 2018) — A 70-year-old man is dead and at least two others were injured Tuesday night in a four-car collision near Yuba City.
The man was driving a GMC southbound on State Route 70 when his vehicle reportedly drifted into oncoming traffic.
The crash was reported about 7:50 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Drivers try to avoid crash on State Route 70
Three other cars heading northbound swerved to avoid the GMC. Unfortunately, they were ended up colliding on and around the highway. The GMC crashed in the southbound lane, a Dodge collided with a power pole, a Toyota ended up in a nearby field and a Hyundai landed next to a tree.
Kenneth Bisher, 68 of Clipper Mills, was driving the Dodge; Tom Vang, 44 of Merced, was driving the Toyota; and Abraham Contreras, 34 of Yakima, Wash. was the driver of the Hyundai.
Paramedics rushed Contreras to Rideout Hospital in Marysville for treatment of minor injuries. Barbara Russell, 59, of Sacramento, who was a passenger in the Dodge, was also taken to the same hospital.
Police closed down State Route 70 between Chandler Road and Sparrow Lane for three hours. The California Highway Patrol is heading up the investigation.
Yuba City Crash Investigation
Police are reviewing the evidence and any witness statements to determine fault. At this time, it appears the driver in the GMC is at fault. A full investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of the vehicles, skid marks, and gouge marks.
