Karen Rojas Arrested for DUI Crash that Killed Barbara Bernard
CORNING (October 30, 2017)- According to the Red Bluff News, a woman of Shasta Lake identified as Barabara Bernard, 81, suffered fatal injuries caused by a wrong-way drunk driver Monday on the 5 freeway.
The collision took place at around 7:52 p.m. near Corning Road between a 2012 Ford Focus and a 2018 Kida Optima.
Per the press release, the driver of the Ford Focus ID’d as Karen Rojas, 57, of Corning, was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of the 5 freeway when shecrash head-on with the Kia driven by Barabara Bernard.
The collision was devastating as it left both vehicles mangled with serious injuries leaving both women trapped inside.
Authorities confirmed that Barbara Bernard was quickly rushed to Enloe Hospital to the trauma center, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries a short while after her admittance.
Meanwhile, Karen Rojas was rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital before being transferred over to UC Davis Medical Center. She remains in serious condition as of Tuesday morning and will face serious charges which will be pending as soon as she is released from the hospital. The charges Rojas will face include DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
