Fontana Woman Killed in Crash was Candidate for School Board
FONTANA, Calif. (August 24, 2022) — Barbara Chavez, 70, of Fontana, died Sunday in a two-vehicle crash at North Maple Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.
The deadly crash occurred about 2:47 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2022, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The Fontana Police Department responded to the intersection where a collision took place between the victim’s Honda sedan and a Mercedes SUV. The motorist in the Mercedes was reportedly fleeing a previous hit-and-run crash. He was heading westbound on Foothill Boulevard and allegedly ran through a red light and crashed into the southbound Honda, Fontana police said.
Barbara Chavez suffered major injuries and died at the scene about 3:05 p.m.
Investigators with the Fontana Police Department continue to work on the case.
The Fontana Herald News added that Barbara Chavez is a former member of the Fontana School Board and was running as a candidate in this year’s November election.
