Barbara Chrisman, 68, Badly Injured in Highway 178 Crash Near Kern River Canyon
KERN COUNTY, CA (October 13, 2021) – Barbara Chrisman was badly injured after a fatal crash on Highway 178 at the top of the Kern River Canyon.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 68-year-old Wofford Heights woman as the victim of the wreck which took place on Tuesday.
The incident began when Barbara Chrisman was driving a 2020 Ford Explorer east on Highway 178 at the top of the Kern River Canyon. At the same time, another vehicle was going west.
For an unknown reason, the westbound driver hit the raised asphalt curb and went onto the right shoulder. The car spun out of control and veered across the double yellow lines.
Man Killed in Head-On Collision
CHP said the vehicle then slammed head-on into the Ford. The Bakersfield Californian wrote that both cars obtained major front-end damage upon impact.
Barbara Chrisman sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and rushed her to the Kern Medical for treatment.
The man traveling west, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. The accident occurred October 12 at around 5:15 p.m., west of Upper Ridgebar.
The cause of the Highway 178 crash is still under investigation.
