Moped Rider Killed in Bay Terraces Crash on Paradise Valley Road
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 26, 2023) – A DUI crash killed a moped rider on Paradise Valley Road in the Bay Terraces neighborhood of San Diego.
According to the San Diego Union Tribune and FOX 5 News, the tragic accident took place late Thursday night. Officers reported the wreck on May 25 at about 11:10 p.m.
The incident happened when a 40-year-old man was riding his moped east in the left lane on the 7100 block of Paradise Valley Road in Bay Terraces.
A 2016 Nissan Maxima was traveling in the same direction at the time. San Diego police said the Nissan failed to see the moped and struck it from behind.
Man, 40, Hit by DUI Driver
The rider ended up ejected from the motorbike due to the impact of the collision. Paramedics confirmed that he died as a result of the accident.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, police determined that the driver of the car was under the influence when he hit the rider.
They soon arrested the 66-year-old man driving the Maxima on suspicion of DUI. Officers forced a stretch of Paradise Valley Road to shut down for a time following the wreck.
The cause of the Bay Terraces crash is still under investigation.
