The collision involved two vehicles and was logged to have taken place at roughly 19:37 a.m.
Preliminary investigations disclose that the driver of a Dodge Charger, Morgan Orsag, 36, had been traveling eastbound on Highway 299. Orsag attempted to pass two vehicles including a big rig who were in front of him and collided with Ryan Thomas who had been driving a Saturn Ion.
The crash tragically caused fatal injuries to Thomas as he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 36-year-old man, Orsag, suffered serious injuries with a broken foot, multiple lacerations, and facial injuries. He was rushed to a medical center, where his condition has not since been updated.
The California Highway Patrol will handle the investigation as it is likely that the driver of the Dodge Charger will be held responsible.
We offer our warmest of thoughts, our prayers, and condolences to the family members of Mr. Ryan Thomas as they search for peace and comfort.
