BELLFLOWER, California (September 21, 2016) — Michael Garcia, 51, of Riverside, Illinois, died Tuesday night when he was struck by a truck while crossing Somerset Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Coroner Department.
The fatal accident took place at about 10 p.m. last night near Ryon Avenue.
Police say Garcia had been crossing the street when the driver of a Ford Ranger pickup truck struck him.
The driver told authorities he did not see the 51-year-old man, but he stopped and provided aid to the man who died at the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Lakewood Station is heading up the investigation into liability for the crash.

There were 585 people killed and 50,917 injured in 2013 traffic accidents in Los Angeles County, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide integrated Traffic Report. In the city of Bellflower, there were 4 deaths and 325 injured that year including one killed in a pedestrian crash and 26 injured, the CHP statistics report said.
