Benjamin Mauldin, 46, Seriously Injured in Temecula Crash on Highway 79
TEMECULA, CA (July 25, 2022) – A fatal crash on Highway 79 and Anza Road seriously injured Benjamin Mauldin in Temecula.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 46-year-old Thermal man as one of the victims in the wreck which took place on Sunday.
The incident happened when Benjamin Mauldin was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado east on Highway 79 in Temecula. At the same time, a 2011 Honda Pilot was going west.
CHP said the Honda then drifted to the right and into the dirt shoulder. The SUV tried to drive back onto the roadway, over-corrected and veered into the opposite lane.
In the process, the Pilot slammed into the pickup truck near Anza Road. The ABC 7 News and My News LA wrote that the collision occurred on July 24 at about 6:25 p.m.
Girl, 8, Killed in Wreck
Benjamin Mauldin and his passenger, a 43-year-old woman, sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. A 12-year-old girl riding with them ended up with minor injuries.
Firefighters arrived and took them to the hospital for further aid. Meanwhile, an 8-year-old girl in the Honda at the scene of the accident.
A 12-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl in the SUV survived the incident with major injuries. Paramedics rushed them to the Riverside County Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Medical personnel brought the female driver of the Pilot with major injuries. CHP determined that she was under the influence of alcohol when she hit the other car.
Officers soon arrested her on suspicion of felony DUI, child endangerment and gross vehicular manslaughter. The Temecula crash is still under investigation.
