Pedestrian Critically Injured in Berkeley DUI Crash Near San Pablo and Oregon
BERKELEY, CA (August 19, 2021) – A DUI crash critically injured a pedestrian near San Pablo Avenue and Oregon Street in Berkeley.
The CBS San Francisco and KTVU News wrote that the accident took place on Thursday afternoon. Officers reported the collision at about 2:46 p.m.
Berkeley police said a vehicle struck a male pedestrian in the city. The driver hit him near the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Oregon Street.
Man, 59, Hit by DUI Driver
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene. They found the 59-year-old man who sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel then rushed the victim to a local trauma hospital and listed him in critical but stable condition. Officials did not release the name of the wounded patient.
Meanwhile, police determined that the motorist was under the influence at the time. They soon arrested the 65-year-old Berkeley man on suspicion of DUI and causing injury to the pedestrian.
Officers forced San Pablo Avenue to shut down between Grayson Street and Heinz Avenue for hours following the collision. The Berkeley crash is still under investigation.
