Motorcyclist Hurt in Berkeley Car Accident on Interstate 80
BERKELEY, Calif. (August 20, 2021) — A Berkeley motorcycle crash happened on the Interstate 80 Freeway Friday morning.
The 3-vehicle traffic accident happened about 9:55 a.m. on August 20th near the University Avenue off ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Berkeley Motorcycle Crash Investigation
The CHP reported the motorcyclist went down in the middle lane after colliding with one motorist and rear-ending another. Witnesses told authorities a vehicle may have changed lanes in front of the bike. A burgundy Toyota Highlanders SUV pulled over to the right shoulder just before the off ramp, police said. Paramedics responded to help the injured rider and transport the person to a hospital. Doctors are treating the motorcyclist for major injuries. Authorities did not release the age and gender of the injured motorcycle rider.
Meanwhile, police issued a SigAlert due to four lanes being blocked by the vehicles. Also, a tow truck removed the damaged motorcycle from the freeway. The roadway reopened at 10:14 a.m.
Additionally, investigators seek to determine the cause of the Berkeley motorcycle crash and liability.
