Man Critically Injured in Berkeley Hit-and-Run on Telegraph Avenue
BERKELEY, CA (June 15, 2021) – A pedestrian was critically injured after a hit-and-run crash on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley.
According to the East Bay Times and Patch, the accident took place on Monday night. Officers reported the collision on June 14 at about 9:36 p.m.
The incident began when a male pedestrian in a mental health crisis was laying down in the roadway in the 3000 block of Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley. At the same time, a vehicle was going north.
Police said the driver approached and then ran over the 50-year-old man. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene near between Webster Street and Ashby Avenue.
Victim in Mental Health Crisis Hit by Car
They found the victim on the ground and suffering from multiple injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed him to a hospital and listed him in critical but stable condition.
Officials did not release the name of the wounded patient. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist involved did not stop to render aid and fled northbound into Berkeley.
Officers described the car as a lowered, dark-colored, mid 1990’s sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima, with tinted windows. They forced a portion of Telegraph Avenue to close for a time following the accident.
