Bicycle Accident at Applegate Road and Bell Drive in Atwater (Jan. 8)

ATWATER, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2025) — A driver struck a person riding a bicycle in a traffic accident Thursday morning in Atwater near the entrance to the California Highway Patrol office on Applegate Road, authorities said.

The collision was reported on Jan. 8th at approximately 8:01 a.m. at the intersection of Applegate Road and Bell Drive, directly in front of the CHP office. According to initial CHP dispatch information, the incident involved a passenger vehicle and a bicyclist.

Emergency medical responders were notified immediately, and American Medical Response and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene. At approximately 8:03 a.m., Atwater Police Department was also notified to assist.

The extent of the bicyclist’s injuries was not immediately available, and officials have not released information on whether the injured party was transported to a hospital. No details were provided regarding the driver involved or whether any citations were issued.

Traffic in the area may have experienced brief delays while first responders assessed the scene and ensured the roadway was safe.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
