Bicycle Rider Seriously Injured in Old Town Crash on Congress Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 5, 2021) – A crash seriously injured a bicycle rider on Congress Street in the Old Town neighborhood in San Diego.
According to an article published by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the accident occurred on Wednesday night. Officers reported the collision at about 8 p.m.
The incident began when a 30-year-old driver going south on Congress Street tried to make a three-point-turn in the narrow roadway.
San Diego police said the first left turn drove the vehicle into the path of a 57-year-old man. He was riding a bicycle on Congress in Old Town at the time.

The bicyclist then hit the passenger side of the turning car, causing him to fall onto the ground. A few moments later, a 51-year-old female motorist approached and ran over the rider.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found the victim suffering from serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel soon took him to a hospital for treatment. The name of the wounded party and his condition at this time were not disclosed.
Meanwhile, police did not mention if the drivers involved immediately stopped after hitting the cyclist. Authorities are still determining the cause of the Old Town bicycle collision.
