Teen Hospitalized, Suspect DUI Driver Attempts Fleeing Scene After Hitting Bicyclist
SOUTH WHITTIER, Calif. (April 19, 2018) — A 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck and injured Wednesday night by a suspected drunken driver who attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was arrested by police, according to On Scene TV.
The collision was reported to police about 8:06 p.m. last night in the 13400 block of Meyer Road. The collision took place in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near the south side of Whittier. A second teenager on a bicycle came to the aid of the victim at the scene. The teenager was transported by ambulance to a local trauma center with undisclosed injuries.
The report stated that the driver struck the bicyclist, stopped his car and fled the scene on foot. Some Good Samaritans ran after the suspect and were able to flag down a parks bureau deputy. The man, believed to be in his 50s, was brought back to the scene where the crash took place and transferred into custody to a California Highway Patrol officer. It’s unknown if the man was arrested.
