Bicyclist Seriously Injured; Hit-and-run Driver Arrested
VISTA, Calif. (August 7, 2018) — A bicyclist was seriously injured Monday night in a hit-and-run collision at University Ave and Lobelia Drive, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The collision took place about 5:38 p.m. last night. The man who was riding the bicycle was struck by a driver in a 2010 Toyota sedan that was traveling eastbound on Lobelia Drive. The suspect did not stop to help the injured man and left the scene.
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the injured bicyclist by ambulance to Palomar Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries suffered in the collision.
A witness to the collision helped police identify and locate the driver and vehicle. Police arrested the male driver and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility.
Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
Traffic Accident Investigation
At this time, police are reviewing the evidence to determine fault. It appears that the driver who struck the bicyclist could be held responsible for this collision.
