Bicyclist Killed in Otay Mesa Crash with Big Rig Truck on Otay Center Drive

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Aug. 13, 2026) — A 59-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon when his bicycle was involved in a crash with a big rig truck at Siempre Viva Road and Otay Center Drive in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego.
The deadly crash occurred around 2:17 p.m. on August 11th, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Detectives investigating the crash stated the 38-year-old truck driver had a green light and was making a right turn from southbound Otay Center Drive onto Siempre Viva Road.
Meanwhile, the man riding the bicycle was also traveling southbound on the right side of the big rig truck. When the trucker turned right, the cyclist crashed into the front right wheel of the truck.
Sadly, the bicycle rider suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into what happened is ongoing, but alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
