Driver Arrested for DUI, Hit-and-run after Fatal Bicycle Crash
VAN NUYS, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2018) – A 38-year-old man riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver who fled the scene and then was arrested after the collision at Haskell Avenue and Stagg Street.
The hit-and-run accident took place about 3:45 a.m. this morning in Van Nuys. Police say the bicyclist was hit from behind and pushed roughly 40 feet. The suspect fled the scene, but police located him at Woodley Avenue and Saticoy Street, about a mile from the crash scene.
Haskell Avenue Accident Investigation
The Los Angeles Police Department is heading up the investigation. The driver put up a fight with police before being arrested and then was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. It’s unknown if those injuries were from the collision or the struggle with police.
Fontana Crash Investigation
Police are reviewing the evidence and any witness statements and will determine all criminal charges against the suspected drunk driver. The investigation will consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of the vehicles, skid marks, and gouge marks.
