LOS ANGELES, California (April 25, 2016) — Bicyclist Tomas Brewer, 26, of Los Angeles was killed in a car crash with a suspected drunken driver who was arrested on murder charges and is being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
The crash took place Saturday night about 6:15 p.m. Police say the driver Cruz Tzoc was allegedly intoxicated at twice the legal limit as he drove 60 mph on Burlington Avenue, lost control of the vehicle, struck a parked car and then crashed into the bicyclist at the intersection with Temple Street.
The bicyclist, who had been traveling eastbound on Temple Street, died of his injuries at the scene of the crash.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrested Tzoc at the scene of the crash and booked him on DUI and murder charges. A police officer witnessed Tzoc speeding prior to the crash and after hearing the collision managed to get to the scene and arrested the suspect.
