Man Tending to Broken Car Dies in Crash Near Jayne Avenue
Coalinga, CA (June 6, 2023) – A 74-year-old man suffered fatal injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on the Interstate 5 Freeway Monday evening, June 5.
The Fresno Bee News reported a vehicle broke down while traveling along I-5 near Jayne Avenue. According to the article published online, the driver stepped out of the disabled vehicle and started tending to it. Our sources indicated the car stopped on the right shoulder but the driver stood within the traffic lanes.
At approximately 11 p.m., an oncoming Peterbilt truck hit the 74-year-old man at the edge of the roadway. The driver of the big rig, a 31-year-old Bakersfield, claimed he did not see the victim.
Deadly Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 5 in Coalinga
The collision resulted in life-threatening injuries to the driver tending to his broken car. Paramedics later arrived and sadly pronounced the man dead. Pending confirmation and notification of next of kin, the identity of the fatal victim remained undisclosed.
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck reportedly stayed and cooperated with the investigation process.
Detectives handling the case continue to work at this time to determine liability in the deadly accident that happened on Interstate 5 in Coalinga.
