Big Rig Truck Jackknifed on 55 Freeway, 17th Street in Santa Ana
SANTA ANA, Calif. (March 25, 2026) — A jackknifed big rig caused a major traffic disruption Wednesday morning on the northbound 55 Freeway near 17th Street in Santa Ana, Orange County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported on March 25th around 7:48 a.m. when a semi-truck collided with the center divider and became jackknifed, blocking multiple lanes. Initial reports indicated the big rig was obstructing the HOV lane and lanes one through four on the northbound side.
Authorities said the truck may have crossed over from the southbound side before striking the divider, creating hazards in both directions. Two pickup trucks were also reported to have collided with the center divider in the aftermath, though it was unclear if there were any injuries.
By about 8 a.m., traffic cameras confirmed that the HOV and far-left lanes remained blocked on the northbound side. A SigAlert was issued for at least one hour, with officials warning of extended delays through the area. Southbound lanes were partially cleared, though debris and part of the trailer continued to block the center divider.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area or expect significant delays as crews worked to clear the wreckage and reopen lanes. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
