Major Injury Collision on State Route 138 in Neenach
LANCASTER, Calif. (March 27, 2026) — One person was injured in a fiery crash between a big rig and a pickup truck on westbound Highway 138 west of Lancaster Friday morning in the Neenach area, authorities said.
The crash was reported on March 27th at about 9:44 a.m. on state Route 138 just east of 280th Street West. Initial reports indicated an 18-wheeler collided with a white Ford pickup truck, with both vehicles coming to rest on the right shoulder.
Within minutes of the crash, one of the vehicles caught fire, and witnesses warned that a trailer involved in the collision was in danger of igniting. Fire crews arrived on scene and began working to extinguish the flames while simultaneously attempting to extricate a person trapped inside one of the vehicles.
By 10 a.m., firefighters advised that an air ambulance would be needed, indicating the severity of injuries. Crews continued rescue efforts as conditions remained hazardous due to the earlier fire.
The extent of injuries and the cause of the crash remain under investigation. Traffic in the area was impacted as emergency personnel worked at the scene.
