4 Killed in Colusa County Helicopter Crash Identified
COLUSA COUNTY, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2021) — Bill Bernard Vann, 67, and his wife, Susie Marie Vann, 60, were among four killed Sunday in a helicopter crash in Colusa County.
The Colusa County Sheriff’s Office also identified Charles Thomas Wilson, 71, of Rocklin, and Bobbie Lee Keaton, 62, of Williams, as the two other victims killed in the collision.
All four people were aboard a Robinson R66 helicopter that crashed into a tomato field at a private ranch in rural Colusa County, police said. Authorities confirmed there were no survivors following the deadly crash in this Northern California community. The FAA’s aircraft registration shows the helicopter was built in 2013 and is registered to William Vann. Authorities have not reported who the pilot was.
The Colusa County Sheriff’s Department reported the collision about 1:15 p.m. on August 1st.
Bill Vann is co-owns Vann Family Orchards with his brother, Garnett Vann. The family-owned business has operated in the Colusa County area for more than 100 years. The Almond Board of California identifies the company as “one of the largest almond processors in northern California.” The company employs roughly 200 people and has about 13,000 acres of almonds and walnuts.
Charles Wilson reportedly spent his career working in the field of highway improvement.
It’s unknown at this time what the circumstances leading to the collision were, however, the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
The origination and destination of the helicopter is unknown at this time.
Investigators with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are working on the case.
