Billy Xiong, 24, Killed in Sutter County Crash on Highway 99 Near Nicholas
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (January 18, 2022) – Billy Xiong was killed after a car crash on Highway 99 near Nicholas Avenue in Sutter County.
The sheriff’s office identified the 24-year-old Chico man as the victim of the fatal wreck which took place on Sunday.
The incident happened when Billy Xiong was driving a Honda Accord north on Highway 99, just south of Nicholas Avenue, in Sutter County.
At the same time, a Dodge 3500 was traveling at 55 mph south in the northbound lane. In the process, the pickup truck slammed head-on into the sedan.
Man, 60, Seriously Injured in Wreck
The California Highway Patrol said the cars crashed amid foggy conditions with about 75 feet visibility. Billy Xiong died at the scene of the crash.
The Sacramento Bee and Action News Now wrote that the collision occurred on January 17 at around 1:53 a.m.
CHP added that the driver of the Dodge, a 60-year-old San Jacinto man, sustained major injuries as a result of the accident. Paramedics soon took him to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the northbound lanes of Highway 99 to shut down for hours near Nicholas following the wreck. The Sutter County crash is still under investigation.
