Bobby Jo Jacobs Jr., 56, Killed in El Cajon Hit-and-Run Crash on Jamacha Road
EL CAJON, CA (April 2, 2021) – A hit-and-run crash killed Bobby Jo Jacobs Jr. along Jamacha Road in El Cajon on Tuesday.
The county Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 56-year-old El Cajon man as one of the victims in the fatal wreck on March 30.
The incident happened when Bobby Jo Jacobs Jr. was riding as a passenger in a vehicle going south on Jamacha Road in El Cajon. At the same time, a tow truck hauling two vehicles was headed in the same direction.
Police said the tow truck driver made a sudden turn for an unknown reason. He then collided with the other car and struck a stand of palm trees outside an apartment complex.
Tow Truck Driver Hits Car, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene, just south of Main. Bobby Jo Jacobs Jr. and the driver of their car ended up injured as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel soon rushed both patients for treatment of significant injuries. Jacobs died at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego on Wednesday night.
San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News reported the accident at about 5:40 p.m. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the tow truck operator fled on foot following the crash.
The suspect later returned to the site. Authorities ultimately took him into custody on suspicion of hit-and-run. The tragic hit-and-run collision is still under investigation.
