According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the tragic accident took place late Friday morning. Officers reported the wreck at about 11:35 a.m.
The incident began when a Freightliner was going west on Borrego Salton Sea Way in Borrego Springs. At the same time, a GMC pickup truck was traveling east.
For an unknown reason, the big rig crossed over the solid double yellow lines and veered into the eastbound lanes. In the process, the semi-truck slammed head-on into the GMC.
