BORREGO SPRINGS (March 2, 2017)- According to California Highway Patrol, a major injury car crash took place Thursday morning on Highway 78.
The incident involved two vehicles and occurred at 8:04 a.m.
CHP officials did specify what vehicles collided, however, they were able to confirm that three total were injured, two seriously and one moderately.
In an article by UT San Diego, CHP said a 60-year-old Borrego Springs woman was driving a GMC Envoy SUV east on Highway 78 when for an unknown reason she swerved and struck a Hyundai Elantra sedan head-on. The Elantra was going west at the time.
The GMC driver and the two occupants of the Elantra, a 73-year-old Wisconsin man and his wife, were all flown to hospitals for treatment. CHP believed all three suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate degree, including broken bones.
UT San Diego reported that the accident happened west of Split Mountain Road, near the desert community of Ocotillo Wells.
The investigation is ongoing.
