HESPERIA , California (October 20, 2014) – Andrew Derrill Wilson, 16, of Hesperia has been identified as the teenager killed when the car he was riding into overturned in a solo crash Friday afternoon in the open desert near Fuente Avenue and Muscatel Street, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
The teenager was a backseat passenger in a black Ford Bronco driven by a 17-year-old friend who was also injured in the 2:50 p.m. crash. Two other passengers suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene of the accident.
Police say the driver was traveling north on Fuente Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned multiple times. Wilson was partially ejected during the crash and suffered major injuries. He and the driver were both transported by ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment, but Wilson died at the hospital.
The Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team is heading up an investigation into the collision.
Witnesses are asked to contact Deputy Kevin McCurdy at 760-947-1500.
“My condolences go out to the family of this young person as they cope with his sudden and tragic loss,” said Attorney James Johnson.
