Fatal 2-Vehicle Car Accident on Highway 39
AZUSA, Calif. (Dec. 6, 2024) — An 8-year-old boy died Thursday night in a head-on crash on Highway 39, about a mile south of East Fork Road in the mountains above Azusa and Glendora.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff-Coroner identified the child as Xavier Ocegueda.
The Azusa Police Department and paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after the 5 p.m. collision on Dec. 5th, the California Highway Patrol reports.
The crash involved a green or black Subaru SUV and a grey Honda Accord sedan.
Several people occupied in each vehicle and there was a dog in one of them.
Both vehicles had major front-end damage and blocked both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 39.
Firefighters freed one person who was trapped in a vehicle and the child was pronounced dead at 5:35 p.m., according to the CHP. The report did not mention how many others were injured in the collision.
Animal control came to take the dog, but it’s unknown if the canine was injured.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the crash on Highway 39 in Azusa.
