Jose Luis Garcia Seriously Hurt Hawthorne Hit-And-Run Crash
HAWTHORNE, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2020) – A 15-year-old boy remains hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on his bicycle crossing Rosecrans Avenue in Hawthorne.
The teenage boy was hit by a motorist about 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 2nd at Rosecrans and Doty avenues, according to the Hawthorne Police Department. The teen was transported to a hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said.
The Hawthorne Police Department is asking for the public’s help to find the motorist who reportedly ran through a red traffic light, hit Garcia and fled the crash scene without stopping to help him.
Hawthorne Hit-And-Run Bicycle Accident
The boy had just begun crossing Rosecrans Avenue shortly after the traffic signal changed and the car had a red light.
The teen was traveling north and the traffic light was red for motorists traveling east and westbound on Rosecrans. As he began to ride his bike north across Rosecrans in a marked crosswalk, he was struck by a white 4-door Toyota Camry or similar vehicle. The Toyota was heading eastbound in the No. 1 lane of Rosecrans Avenue when the driver struck the boy at a high rate of speed. The boy’s mother, Florencia Lopez, told authorities hers on had rode his bicycle alongside her as she walked to the bus stop prior to the crash. She witnessed the driver hit her son and flee the scene without stopping.
The teenager suffered a serious head injury, a fractured leg, ankles and feet and a broken arm. The suspect’s car is likely to have sustained extensive damage to the windshield and front end.
