Boy Riding Bicycle Injured in Crash at Owens Street and Quincy Street in Bakersfield

11-Year-Old Bicyclist Critically Injured in East Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (May 29, 2025) — An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle at Owens Street and Quincy Street in East Bakersfield.

It happened around 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The juvenile was riding east on Quincy Street when he entered the intersection and was hit by a silver sedan traveling south on Owens Street.

Police say the crash took place in an uncontrolled intersection, which has no stop signs or traffic signals. Emergency responders transported the child to a local hospital by ambulance, where he remains in critical condition.

The driver involved an unidentified woman who stopped and cooperated with authorities. Investigators have determined that neither speed nor impairment appears to have played a role in the incident.

Both Owens and Quincy Streets are residential areas with posted speed limits of 25 mph.
