Olga Reed Elementary School Student Critically Injured in Crash
LOS ALAMOS, Calif. (April 11, 2019) — A 13-year-old boy riding a bicycle was struck by a car while riding to Olga Reed Elementary School.
The collision took place about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10th. The collision took place near the southbound on-ramp to Highway 101 at Highway 135. The teenager, who was not wearing a helmet, was riding his bicycle against the flow of traffic when the collision took place, police said. Karen Nielson, 50, of Los Alamos was making a right turn when she struck the boy and knocked him off the bicycle. The child suffered major injuries in the collision and was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Police are investigating the crash and will determine liability.
