BOYLE HEIGHTS, California (June 27, 2016) –A man was killed and nine people were hurt when a suspected DUI driver crashed into pedestrians standing near a taco stand in this Los Angeles County community, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fatal crash took place about 10:17 p.m. Sunday night in the 370 block of South Clarence Street.
The driver of a Nissan Altima identified as Maribel Rosas was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a crowd of people and parked vehicles.
A man who was standing in front of the taco stand to place an order was struck and run over by the car. Bystanders were able to get him out from underneath the vehicle, but he died of his injuries at the scene. Three others were hospitalized including two people in critical condition and six others suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
The investigation into the crash is headed up by the Los Angeles Police Department. Maribel Rosas, 34, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
