Brandon Cooper Hit by 2 Cars near Salton Sea
THOUSAND PALMS, Riverside County (August 7, 2017) – 30-year-old Brandon Cooper was fatally struck on Highway 86 late Sunday evening, according to the Desert Sun.
As per the article, Cooper was walking for unknown reasons along the northbound lanes when he was struck by a vehicle just south 84th Avenue. The driver of that vehicle did not stop to render aid to the victim, officials said.
Thousand Palms Fatal Accident
At approximately 11:15 p.m., Cooper was apparently lying face down in the right lane when he was then hit by a 2005 Ford Mustang. The driver, a 38-year-old Cathedral City woman, reported the incident and stayed at the scene.
Investigators have not yet determined how much time passed between the two collisions.
When emergency crews arrived, Cooper was not breathing anymore. The victim, a Thousand Oaks resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene around 11:29 p.m.
The highway’s right lane was closed to traffic until about 4:00 a.m. while officers investigated the crash. Authorities believe alcohol or drugs may have been involved.
At this time, authorities have not yet ruled if this fatal incident is a hit-and-run case. But the California Law states that any time a motorist hits a pedestrian and then flees the scene without contacting the victim or officers, it is considered as a hit-and-run. If investigators prove that the driver who fled the scene is liable for the death of Mr. Brandon Cooper, the victim’s family may pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against any at-fault party.
