CALAVERAS COUNTY (September 19, 2019) – An alleged DUI crash severely injured a passenger near Highway 26 and Gold Creek Drive Saturday.
The California Highway Patrol identified the wounded victim as 28-year-old Brandon Sewell, a resident of Valley Springs.
According to The Union Democrat, a 2006 Infiniti QX left the road on the south shoulder of Highway 26 in Valley Springs. It rolled over in a dirt field.
A turning maneuver allegedly caused the car to spin out of control and to overturn. The accident occurred on September 14 at about 12:25 a.m.
Suspected DUI Driver Richard Breakfield, 30, Arrested
Both Sewell and the male driver of the Infiniti were ejected from the vehicle. They sustained major injuries following the wreck.
Sewell was taken to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. Officials initially believed he was driving the Infiniti when it crashed.
However, authorities found out that 30-year-old Richard Breakfield was operating the car while Sewell was riding as his passenger.
Officers ultimately arrested Breakfield for DUI and causing injuries. They determined that the Manteca man was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
