Brian Martin Killed; Michelle Crowder Hospitalized After Crash at Yosemite and Kibby Intersection
MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (May 29, 2018) – Three men are dead and a woman suffered major injuries Tuesday morning following a head-on two-vehicle crash at E. Yosemite Avenue and Kibby Road, a California Highway Patrol.
The collision took place about 9:34 a.m. between a black Nissan and a red Honda at the intersection. Two people were trapped in a vehicle and required extrication by arriving firefighters.
Police say John Harris, 40, of Atwater, was driving a 1996 Nissan Sentra when he attempted to pass slower-moving vehicles when their vehicle crashed head-on into a 2000 Honda Civic driven by 46-year-old Brian Martin of Merced. The two drivers died at the scene and both of their passengers were injured. Michelle Crowder, who is about 60 years old, was a passenger in the Honda. She was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries. A man who was a passenger in the Nissan has not been identified. He was also taken to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.
The Honda had major front-end damage and the Nissan had major damage all over as it overturned.
Fatal Accident Investigation
Police are investigating this collision to determine the cause and liability. At this time, it’s apparent that the driver in the Nissan who attempted to pass the slower vehicles and crashed into the other motorist, will be considered at fault.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families of those who died at this difficult time.
