Briana Day, 28, ID’d as Suspect in Walnut Creek Fatal DUI Crash Near Main and Pine
WALNUT CREEK, CA (August 5, 2022) – Authorities detained Briana Day after a DUI crash that killed a pedestrian in Walnut Creek.
Police determined that the 28-year-old Concord woman was under the influence when the fatal accident occurred on Saturday.
The incident happened when Briana Day was driving a pickup truck in the area of Main Street and Pine Street in Walnut Creek.
At the same time, two pedestrians were standing on the east sidewalk of North Main Street. Police said the driver struck them and then slammed into a cement pillar nearby.
Maricarmen Leon, 27, Hit and Killed by Car
The Mercury News and NBC Bay Area wrote that the collision took place on July 30 at about 1:50 a.m. One of the victims, 27-year-old Maricarmen Leon, died at the scene.
Family members set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral costs of the Discovery Bay woman. The other pedestrian sustained major injuries as a result of the accident.
Paramedics rushed the patient to a hospital for treatment. The reports did not disclose the name of the wounded party and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police soon arrested Briana Day on suspicion of DUI causing injury, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
They booked her at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of a $300,000 bail. The Walnut Creek DUI crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 925-935-6400.
