DUI Driver Brooke Buchanan, 21, Hits Another Car Head-On in Arnold Crash
ARNOLD, CA (April 20, 2021) – Authorities detained Brooke Buchanan after a DUI crash along Highway 4 in Arnold.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 21-year-old Merced woman was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Saturday.
The incident happened on April 17 when Brooke M. Buchanan was driving a 2006 Honda Civic west on Highway 4 in Arnold. At the same time, a 2004 Ford F-250 was going east.
CHP said Brooke Buchanan slowed to cross over the centerline, directly into the path of the pickup truck. In the process, she hit the Ford F-250 head-on.
2 Victims Injured in Car Collision on Highway 4
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene near the entrance of the Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Buchanan and two other people ended up hurt as a result of the collision.
An air ambulance took Buchanan to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries. Her passenger, 21-year-old Modesto resident Dominic M. Appleby, sustained moderate injuries.
The driver of the pickup, 61-year-old Dorrington resident Thomas M. Sullivan, survived with minor injuries. The Calaveras Enterprise and My Mother Lode reported the accident shortly after 10 a.m.
Medical personnel rushed the other two patients to the Adventist Health Sonora for treatment. Meanwhile, CHP placed Buchanan under arrest for felony DUI, causing injury.
The Arnold crash is still under investigation.
