BUENA PARK, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2016) –– Two women were struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday night after they interrupted a tagger vandalizing a stop sign. The crash took place at Fullerton Avenue and Artesia Boulevard, according to the Orange County Register.
The collision took place about 10 p.m. after the two women were attempting to stop the male tagger from vandalizing public property, the Buena Park Police Department said.
One of the victims identified as Norma Diaz told authorities she was driving her Jeep with a female passenger and witnessed a man climbing onto a stop sign. He was attempting to vandalize it with spray paint, she said. When he saw the victim’s car pull up, he allegedly threw the can of spray paint at the Jeep. He then got into a van and that’s when Diaz pulled up next to it to take down its license plate. Her passenger got out of the Jeep and was struck by the van as its driver reversed. Diaz also got out and confronted the driver who once again reversed and she fell over.
Paramedics responded and took the passenger to UC Irvine Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Diaz suffered cuts on her head and arms.
The hit-and-run driver fled the scene and police are searching for the suspect. The Buena Park Police Department is heading up the investigation and can be reached at (714) 562-3902.
