Buttonwillow crash Interstate 5
1 Killed in Buttonwillow Head-On Crash on Southbound Interstate 5
KERN COUNTY, CA (June 5, 2021) – At least one was killed after a head-on crash on the Interstate 5 near the area of Buttonwillow.
According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch team, the tragic accident occurred early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck at about 2:15 a.m.
CHP said two vehicles collided head-on near Buttonwillow in Kern County. They crashed on the southbound Interstate 5, just south of Lerdo Highway.
Wrong-Way Collision Near Lerdo Highway
The report log indicated that one of the drivers involved was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the freeway at the time. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon responded the scene.
They extricated two trapped people from both vehicles. Medical personnel confirmed that at least one person died as a result of the collision.
The name of the deceased victim remains unreleased pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, CHP forced the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 to shut down following the wreck.
The fatal Buttonwillow wrong-way crash is still under investigation.
