Byron Camacho-Najera Suspect in Tulare County DUI Crash on Highway 99
TULARE COUNTY, CA (June 28, 2021) – Authorities detained Byron Camacho-Najera after a DUI crash on Highway 99 in Tulare County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck occurred on Sunday.
The incident began when Byron Camacho-Najera was driving a BMW south on northbound Highway 99 at 70 mph in Tulare County. At the same time, a Dodge was going north at around 75 mph.
CHP said the wrong-way driver then slammed head-on into the other car, just south of Avenue 184. The two crashed on June 27 at around 3:30 a.m.
Victim, 28, Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found a 28-year-old victim hurt as a result of the collision. The patient sustained major injuries upon impact.
Medical personnel rushed the wounded party to a hospital for treatment. The name of the person and their condition at this time were not released.
Your Central Valley wrote that CHP soon arrested Byron Camacho-Najera on felony DUI charges. Officers forced the northbound lanes of Highway 99 to shut down following the crash.
The DUI collision near Visalia is still under investigation.
