5 Injured in Head-On Crash on Byron Highway Near Camino Diablo
BYRON, CA (March 19, 2022) – A car crash left several people injured on Byron Highway near Camino Diablo in Byron.
According to The Press and East County Today, the accident took place late Friday night. Officers reported the wreck on March 18 shortly before 11 p.m.
The incident began when a car was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Byron Highway near Camino Diablo. At the same time, a silver Acura was going north.
In the process, the speeding driver crossed the yellow line and slammed head-on into the Acura. A third car then became involved in the collision.
Speeding Driver Hits Cars
The California Highway Patrol described the other two vehicles as a black Hyundai Sonata and a black Honda Accord.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and extricated a trapped female motorist from the wreckage. An air ambulance took her to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with critical injuries.
Another helicopter airlifted a second patient to John Muir with severe injuries. A ground ambulance rushed two other people to the same hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
A fifth party declined transport and ended up released at the site. The report did not disclose the names of the wounded victims and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, CHP forced Byron Highway to shut down in both directions for two hours following the wreck. The cause of the crash near Camino is still under investigation.
