Woman, Child Hospitalized after Highway 101 Hit-and-run Crash
GARBERVILLE, Calif. (June 4, 2020) — Caitlyn Shaffer suffered major injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 101 in Garberville.
The crash took place about 3 p.m. on May 29th, just south of Barkdull Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Shaffer was among three passengers riding in a Kia Sedona driven by William Legrain of Rio Del. The Kia was traveling northbound on Highway 101 when they came upon a diversion in the roadway set up for maintenance and repairs. A southbound vehicle reportedly collided with a temporary traffic divider, became airborne and collided with the Kia going through the front windshield.
Shaffer sustained major injuries and was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital. Also hurt in the crash was one of two children who were in the backseat. The child suffered minor injuries and another child in the car was uninjured.
Police continue to investigate this crime and seek to find the suspect who fled.
