Truck Operator Badly Injured in Cajon Pass Accident on 15 Freeway
CAJON PASS (November 24, 2018) – A truck driver was badly injured after an alleged wrong-way crash on the 15 Freeway Saturday, according to The Sun and The Daily Press.
The accident was reported at about 11:46 a.m., just south of the Oak Hills Road off-ramp.
As per the reports, California Highway Patrol said a blue Subaru was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when its driver hit a tanker truck head-on on the northbound 15 Freeway.
Witnesses claimed that the Subaru was going south in the wrong direction on the freeway when it struck the tractor-trailer. Both the car and the big rig caught fire as a result of the collision.
Wrong-Way Driver Killed in Cajon Pass Car Crash
San Bernardino County Fire Department officials along with the paramedics responded and transported the operator of the truck was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to be treated for moderate injuries.
The speeding motorist was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 22-year-old Elijah Steven Avila-Mott, of Diamond Bar.
Meanwhile, authorities are determining whether or not the wreck was prompted by suicide attempt. The investigation is ongoing.
