Norma Rosas Alvarado Killed Calexico Accident on Cesar Chavez Boulevard
Woman and Man Hit by Detached Trailer in Calexico on Cesar Chavez Boulevard
CALEXICO (July 31, 2017)- According to the Imperial Press News, a deadly accident was reported Wednesday, July 26, where a woman was killed and a man was injured on Cesar Chavez Boulevard.
At roughly 9:50 a.m., a man and a woman had been walking along the 400 block of Cesar Chavez Boulevard. As they continued to walk southbound along the road, a trailer hitched to a vehicle became detached and crossed over both north and southbound lanes as a truck made a turn onto Fifth Street.
The trailer continued across all traffic lanes and eventually struck the man and woman as they were pushed into a wall of a business building.
Both victims were seriously injured following impact. The woman who has been identified as Norma Rosas Alvarado, 54. was flown to El Centro Regional Med Center, where she sadly did not survive and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was also transported to El Centro Med Center. He is expected to survive.
Calexico Police officials confirmed the driver of the truck responsible for the trailer coming loose did indeed stop and pull over. He was questioned by authorities and was not arrested.
Calexico PD is currently investigating the incident and will hopefully release more information.
Based on this news report, the motorist, party, or entity responsible for that trailer to detach from the vehicle will be held responsible for this incident. There are still several unanswered questions here. What specifically caused the trailer to separate from the vehicle it was connected to? Was drugs or alcohol a possible factor in the detachment of the trailer? Was there negligence on behalf of the liable party in any other way? We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, the family of the woman and the injured man will have the right to a wrongful death claim and a personal injury lawsuit seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship.
