Big Rig Truck, Car Accident Petrified Forest Road
CALISTOGA, Calif. (Dec. 19, 2017) — At least one person died Tuesday when a red semi-tractor trailer truck and a car collided on Petrified Forest Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place about 11:59 a.m. and was blocking both sides of the roadway.
The truck suffered major damage to its cab and the white Volkswagen sedan was described as being in pieces with major damage. Paramedics responded and rushed at least one person to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment of major injuries. The person later died of their injuries.
Police closed down the roadway to enable paramedics to help victims and remove damaged vehicles from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by police to determine liability.
Police are heading up an investigation into liability for this collision and will determine fault.
At this time, they are looking into whether negligence by one or more parties contributed to this accident. It’s unclear at this time whether or not speed, drugs and or alcohol were involved. A dangerous intersection or mechanical failures may also be contributing factors.
