Caltrans Worker Badly Injured in Escondido DUI Crash on 15 Freeway
ESCONDIDO (May 24, 2018) – A Caltrans employee was badly injured after an alleged DUI crash that also hurt three other people on the 15 Freeway Thursday, according to San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego.
The accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on the northbound 15 Freeway, approaching 9th Avenue near Highway 78.
As per the reports, California Highway Patrol said a Caltrans worker was inside a pickup truck when it was struck by a Nissan Sentra.
2 Other People Hurt; Suspect Arrested For DUI
The driver of the Nissan, a 26-year-old Escondido man, was traveling in the carpool lanes when he allowed his car to veer to the left. The Sentra then went into the center divide area where it hit the Caltrans truck.
CHP affirmed that the the Caltrans worker was transported to the hospital to be treated for moderate injuries. His name and condition at this time remained unknown.
Meanwhile, the front seat passenger of the Nissan suffered major injuries, while the backseat occupant sustained moderate injuries.
CHP added that the 26-year-old motorist, who was believed to have been under the influence of drug at the time of the wreck, complained of pain but declined to be treated. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
