Caltrans Worker Killed in Ontario DUI Crash on Westbound 10 Freeway

ONTARIO, CA (July 31, 2021) – A Caltrans worker was killed after a suspected DUI crash on the 10 Freeway in Ontario.

According to an article published by the KTLA News, the tragic accident occurred late Friday night. Officers reported the collision on July 30 at around 11 p.m.

The incident began when Caltrans workers were conducting maintenance work with heavy machinery in Ontario. They were in the Nos 4 and 5 lanes of the westbound 10 Freeway at the time.

The California Highway Patrol said a Toyota sedan approached and then swerved into the orange canes. In the process, the car hit one of the workers.

Worker Hit by Car Near Archibald and Vineyard

Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene between the off-ramps of Archibald and Vineyard avenues. They found the victim who sustained critical injuries as a result of the collision.

Medical personnel soon rushed him to the Pomona Valley hospital, where he died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the man driving the Toyota tried to flee the area after hitting the employee. Authorities evaluated him for DUI and took him into custody.

Officers forced the westbound side of the 10 Freeway to shut down following the Ontario crash. The fatal collision is still under investigation.
