Gabino Ibarra, 39, Seriously Injured in Nipomo Caltrans Crash on Highway 101
NIPOMO, CA (September 9, 2022) – A pedestrian crash seriously injured Caltrans Worker Gabino Ibarra on Highway 101 in Nipomo.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 39-year-old man as the victim of the collision which took place on Friday afternoon.
The incident happened when a truck was going south on Highway 101 in Nipomo. At the same time, Gabino Ibarra was working as part of a Caltrans crew completing road repairs in the area.
Worker Hit by Truck
CHP said the driver of the truck, 29-year-old Alexander Ayala, veered right onto the shoulder for an unknown reason. In the process, the Santa Maria man sideswiped the Caltrans vehicle and the worker.
The KSBY News wrote that the wreck at around 1:30 p.m. near Tefft Street. Caltrans employee Gabino Ibarra sustained major injuries as a result of the accident.
Paramedics rushed him to the Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile, CHP forced one lane of the highway to shut down following the incident.
The cause of the Nipomo crash is still under investigation.
